X Factor: Where Did Last Year's Finalists Go?

It’s a new series of The X Factor and it’s already causing a bit of a stir. So we thought it would be a good chance for us to have a catch up on what last year’s finalists are up to and whether they've found success or are on their way to following in the footsteps of JLS and Leona Lewis.

THE BOYS

the boys

Lloyd Daniels

He came fifth in the 2009 series and is currently touring with fellow finalist Danyl Johnson but Lloyd Daniels says he would never do it again as the stress was just too much and made him lose one and half stone.

Rikki Loney

Aaah Ricki.  He was rejected at bootcamp in 2008.  Then came back fighting in 2009 and made it all the way to the finals only to be knocked out in week two.  He’s not back again this year (well it doesn’t look like it yet) and isn’t planning on any upcoming releases.  He is, however, writing some songs so who knows.

Joe McElderry (Winner)

Joe made X-Factor history after being the first winner not to get the Christmas Number 1 when a Facebook campaign pushed Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In The Name of to the top of the charts.  He hit number one later anyway though and since has been quietly working on his debut album which will be released in October and promises plenty of surprises.

THE GIRLS

Rachel Adedeji

Rachel was only 18 during the live shows and, despite impressing the judges, kept getting thrown into the bottom two.   She doesn’t have a recording contract but is playing live shows around the country and has been writing and recording.

Lucie Jones

The singer controversially lost out to Jedward in the finals when Simon Cowell picked the duo over her.  But luckily for Lucie it hasn’t done her career any harm as she has been shining on the West End stage in Les Miserables and recently went back to Wales to perform at a children’s camp.

Stacey Solomon

Even though she was the last girl standing on the show the blonde mother from Dagenham, Essex isn’t likely to be releasing any singles anytime soon although she has been performing at concerts around the country.

THE OVER 25S

xfactor over 25sJamie Archer

Otherwise known as Jamie Afro, the rocker recently performed with a charity band made up of children from troubled backgrounds.  The singer doesn’t think X Factor showed him in the right light but he still thinks he can use the platform for success.

Danyl Johnson

The one who wowed judges with his first audition and started out the series as the frontrunner left the competition as a semi finalist.  Since then?  Well, Danyl’s developed a bit of a cult but apart from performing with other X Factor finalists, there’s no sign of Danyl making a comeback any time soon.

Olly Murs

It’s all been a bit quiet from the popular runner up.  Until now.  His first single is out now right on time for the new series of the X factor.  Is it any good?  Well, have a listen and make your mind up: Olly Murs New Single

THE GROUPS

X FactorTHE GROUPS blogJohn & Edward

The controversial twosome have so far had the most success out of all of 2009’s finalists with a number 1 album and single in Ireland and plenty of TV exposure.  But is the Jedward bubble about to burst?  Only time will tell!

Kandy Rain

The girl band didn’t click with the judges (apart from Louis) or the viewers.  They swore that when they were voted out: “You haven’t heard the last of Kandy Rain.”  But it seems, we have.

Miss Frank

They were the girlband constructed from three solo singers on The X Factor.  Amazingly the girls are still a group (although Shaniece has been replaced) and even though they don’t have any big budgets backing them, they’ve written, produced a single called Caught Up.  Though they haven't had any huge success yet they have plenty of fans out there and may make a Diana Vickers-style comeback.

Who was your favourite last year?
